Joel Hicks-Rivera

As a Senior Community Impact Officer, Joel is responsible for evaluating grant proposals and providing funding recommendations to the Community Impact leadership team.  His areas of focus include, youth economic mobility, higher opportunity neighborhoods, and arts connected to opportunity youth engagement. His career highlights include significant achievements in workforce development, including the direction of the development and implementation of Hartford Working Cities for the United Way of Central and Northeast CT. Joel earned a bachelor’s degree from Bradford College, and Masters of Science degrees from Mercy College (Organizational Leadership) and Central Connecticut State University (Professional Counseling).

What do you enjoy most about Greater Hartford?
I am a native of Hartford and what I enjoy the most about Greater Hartford is that we are a small city full of resilient people and communities that want and thrive for more.

Are you involved in any volunteer activities?
I have been active in the community engagement work where I have served as a leadership development facilitator and coach for Five Frogs, Inc, and am an active member of Leadership Greater Hartford’s Race Equity Advisory Council. I also am a member of the Action Lab Advisory Board for the Trinity College Center for Hartford Engagement and Research.
