Hartford Foundation for Public Giving Welcomes Marlene Ibsen to Board of Directors

Marlene Ibsen has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, the community foundation for Hartford and 28 surrounding communities.

Ibsen’s appointment by the Trustees Committee, comprised of Bank of America, and KeyBank, the successor by merger to New Alliance Bank, will begin on January 1, 2017 and ends on December 31, 2021.

Since November 2007, Ibsen has served as chief executive officer and president of Travelers Foundation and vice president, Community Relations, for The Travelers Companies, Inc.  In her role, she manages the company’s giving practices, overseeing the distribution of approximately $20 million in charitable and civic support each year. Ibsen is also responsible for the company’s community-related employee engagement and development activities. Under her leadership, Travelers has developed a strategic approach for the company’s charitable giving, with a significant emphasis on increasing educational opportunities for underrepresented students.

Prior to her role in Community Relations at Travelers, Ibsen worked as a vice president in Travelers Corporate Communications, supervising the communications staff responsible for media relations, corporate issues and business unit support. Ibsen has also worked as a writer/producer and public relations consultant.

Ibsen has served on the boards of a variety of nonprofit organizations including the Governor's Prevention Partnership, the Youth Continuum, the Connecticut Forum, and as chairwoman for Junior Achievement of Southwest New England.

Ms. Ibsen holds a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from Texas Christian University, and an M.S. in Communications Management from Syracuse University.
