Hartford Foundation for Public Giving Receives Highest Rating from Charity Navigator

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, , the community foundation for 29 communities in Greater Hartford, has received a four-star rating for its strong financial health and commitment to  accountability and transparency from Charity Navigator, the nonprofit sector’s leading evaluator of the United States’ more than 1.5 million charities.

The Hartford Foundation has received Charity Navigator’s highest possible rating in recognition of the Foundation adherence to sector best practices, and execution of its mission in a financially efficient way. Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that Hartford Foundation for Public Giving exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in its area of work. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Hartford Foundation for Public Giving apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness. Approximately only twenty-five percent of organizations evaluated by Charity Navigator have attained this level of distinction.

Through the support of its generous donors, the Foundation was able to award a total of 2,135 grants amounting to $33 million to the region’s nonprofit agencies and educational institutions – both record numbers in 2015. 

According to the latest estimated, unaudited numbers, the Foundation ended 2015 with assets of $888.3 million in 1,120 funds. The Foundation received gifts totaling $17.5 million with 29 new funds, including a new giving circle, the “Black Giving Circle Fund,” to address issues facing Greater Hartford’s Black community. Since its founding in 1925, the Foundation has awarded approximately $654 million in grants.
