Hartford Foundation for Public Giving Presents: “Closing the Opportunity Gap: An Evening with Dr. Robert Putnam”

General Public Invited to July 21 Presentation by Acclaimed Academic and Author of Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community and Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis

Across Connecticut’s cities and suburbs, more and more working families can’t seem to better their situation. Millions of American families are missing much more than material wealth; they lack the critical opportunities that would help them overcome hardships and advance.

Without opportunity, poor children have little hope of overcoming the terrible isolation, obstruction and exclusion of poverty. If we maintain the status quo, poverty will increasingly erode and divide our communities and economy, now and for generations to come.  For Connecticut to break the cycle and cost of poverty, we must better understand the problem and work together to give all children the opportunities they need to succeed.

On July 21 at 7:30 p.m. the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving invites the public to The Bushnell Theatre for an evening with Dr. Robert Putnam, Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University and author of Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community and Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis. Putnam will discuss how the opportunity gap affects children and families, how it impacts our communities, and how we can work together to close it.

This free event is open to all members of the general public, to RSVP, visit www.hfpg.org/Putnam: or call (860) 548-1888.
