Requirements of the Connecticut State Ethics Office for Public Officials, State Employees, and Immediate Family

As a registered lobbyist with the Connecticut Office of State Ethics, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is subject to the state rules related to lobbying, including the rules related to gifts.

Under these rules, we may provide public officials, state employees, and their immediate family members up to $49.99 in food/beverage in the calendar year at an occasion at which our representatives are in attendance.  See General Statutes § 1-91 (7) (I).  Because the per-person value of the food/beverage at this event exceeds $49.99, you (or your immediate family members, if applicable) must, within 30 days of the event, reimburse the host organization in the amount exceeding the $49.99 limit.

Further, we must, within 10 days of the event, provide written notification to certain public officials, state employees, and their immediate family members when we give them anything of value which is subject to reporting requirements pursuant to subsection (e) of § 1-96 of the General Statutes.  See General Statutes § 1-97 (d).
