Michael Wotorson

Senior Community Investments Officer


As a Senior Community Investments Officer, Michael helps manage and coordinate grantmaking and outreach activities in the areas of community safety, re-entry supports and student progress. He co-leads the Community Safety and Re-entry Supports Outcomes team, where he works with grantmaking colleagues to ensure that the Foundation’s work in these areas fully exemplifies its strategic priorities.

Michael previously worked as Chairman/CEO of the Liberia National Investment Commission in the Republic of Liberia (West Africa). In the social justice arena, Michael has served as the Executive Director the Campaign for High School Equity, National Education Director with the NAACP, and Director of School Improvement-Race/Ethnicity with the Mid Atlantic Equity Consortium.  Michael earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in comparative political systems from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also completed doctoral coursework in Education Administration at American University in Washington, DC. 

What do you enjoy most about Greater Hartford?
The entire region feels warm and comfortable. I love being so close to the woods and close to the city at the same time.
