From time to time, the Hartford Foundation will call for proposals from local nonprofit organizations to help us implement a program in support of a strategic initiative.

Special Funds

In addition to our regular grantmaking, the Foundation also has special funds that solicit applications throughout the year.

Newton C. and Elsie B. Brainard Fund 

The Brainard Fund supports qualified individuals or their spouses experiencing financial hardship due to substantial healthcare bills incurred through a serious or chronic illness.

To find out if you are eligible for Brainard Fund support:

  1. Download the brochure (PDF) to learn more about qualifications for support.
  2. Call 2-1-1 and ask about the Brainard Fund to find out if your healthcare provider is involved in this program. If you are eligible, you will receive guidance on next steps for applying for assistance.
Natale and Norma Sestero Fund 

This fund supports nonprofit programs and services that benefit the citizens of Glastonbury, CT. Grants are made for a broad range of community needs. The deadline for applications is typically in the fall of each year. For eligibility criteria and application procedures, interested organizations should contact Dawn Grant, program officer.

Amiel P. Zak Public Service Fund 

This fund supports nonprofits serving the residents of Suffield, CT. Grants are made for projects that will address basic needs or improve the quality of life for residents in Suffield. For eligibility criteria and application procedures, interested organizations should contact Betty Ann Grady, development officer.
