Technical Assistance Grants (TAGs) help you determine what you want to accomplish in the future and how to get there, by developing a structured plan with the assistance of a skilled consultant that you select. TAGs may be used for major organizational issues such as:
- Strategic planning
- Board development
- Fund development
- Endowment planning
- Marketing and public relations
- Executive coaching
- Collaborations and mergers
- Human resource systemsSuccession planning
Approved funds are to pay for consultant costs only. TAGs are not intended for scholarships, conference attendance, direct fundraising activities, legal fees, financial audits, staff training, or services that were received prior to grant approval.
Nonprofits in the Greater Hartford region are eligible for TAGs. TAGs are reviewed individually and grant amounts generally range as follows:
| Agencies with budgets of: |
May be eligible for grants of: |
| Under $1 million |
up to $10,000 |
| $1 - $3 million |
up to $15,000 |
| $3 - $5 million |
up to $20,000 |
| $5 million and above |
up to $25,000 |
These ranges do not constitute a guaranteed grant amount.
Statewide agencies or those serving a region beyond Greater Hartford are eligible to apply for an amount that is proportional to the percentage of services provided in the Greater Hartford region.
For those agencies that receive Technical Assistance Grants, additional funds of up to $3,000 may be available once the final plan is submitted to the Foundation. These follow-up funds can be used to pay for additional consultant time after the plan is completed, to ensure implementation of the plan. Follow-up services can include meetings and/or retreats with key board and staff members.
