General Scholarship Endowment Fund
By contributing to the Hartford Foundation’s General Scholarship program, you can leverage your gift and make a much more substantial impact on area students. You will also relieve your family or organization from the responsibilities of administering a scholarship while enjoying the satisfaction of helping students pursue a college education.

Gifts to the General Scholarship Endowment Fund can be of any size. If your cumulative gift is $10,000 or more, you may name one or more awards in perpetuity.

Currently, because the General Scholarship Endowment Fund combines many funds, it can make four-year scholarship awards of up to $3,000 a year (renewable for up to $12,000 over four years) toward tuition, fees, room, and board. Awards are made to graduating high school seniors and/or current undergraduates who are:

1. residents of Greater Hartford;
2. enrolled full-time in a four-year college or university in the fall after graduation;
3. in the top third of their class academically;
4. in need of financial aid;
5. involved as volunteers in school, community, or other extracurricular activities.

Each finalist is personally interviewed by a member of the Foundation’s Volunteer Scholarship Committee. This personal interview process is an invaluable resource that many scholarship organizations simply cannot provide.
