Scholarship Fund Honors 'Dedication, Vision' of Alan Green

A scholarship fund honoring Alan Green, who stepped down Friday, Feb. 3 as executive director of the Hartford Housing Authority, has been established at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Green served as associate director of the Hartford Foundation for nearly 12 years (1982-1994).

The Housing Authority established the Alan E. Green Hartford Housing Authority Scholarship Fund as a tribute to his “dedication, vision and love for his native city,” said Marilyn Rossetti, chair of the Housing Authority.
 
“Alan Green has devoted his career to serving and leading organizations that improve people’s lives, and as a ‘child’ of Hartford, I know he cares deeply about the community and its residents,” said Linda J. Kelly, president of the Hartford Foundation. “The Hartford Foundation’s board and staff are honored to administer a fund that will carry on that tradition for generations to come.”

“It has been a great honor and privilege to serve our community,” said Mr. Green, who became executive director of the Housing Authority in 2008.

In addition to his positions at the Hartford Foundation and Housing Authority, Mr. Green, who holds degrees from the University of Hartford and the University of Connecticut School of Law, served as executive director of the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven and president & CEO of the New Samaritan Corporation in Hamden.

The fund will provide two- and four-year scholarships for graduating high school seniors who live in Hartford, with a preference for those who have some involvement with the Housing Authority. It joins 100 other scholarship funds at the Hartford Foundation, which annually award more than $1 million to students from the Greater Hartford region.

Contributions to the Alan E. Green Hartford Housing Authority Scholarship Fund may be made by check payable to Alan E. Green Scholarship Fund at HFPG, Inc. and mailed to: Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, 10 Columbus Boulevard, 8th floor, Hartford, CT 06106, or online at www.hfpg.org/donate.
