Hartford Foundation has awarded a $20,000 grant to West Hartford Community Television (WHC-TV) for computer hardware, network improvements, phone systems and software. The grant was awarded through the Hartford Foundation’s Nonprofit Support Program, which offers assessments, workshops and grants to help strengthen the organizational capacity of nonprofits.
"We’re so grateful to Hartford Foundation for Public Giving," said Lauren Fine, president of WHC-TV’s board of directors. This generous gift will allow us to complete our three-year strategic technology plan, which includes improvements to our infrastructure that will help us focus on our mission to provide media tools and training to residents in our community.”
West Hartford Community Television is a unique local media that encourages citizen participation in community life by providing an open forum for free speech, community dialogue, cultural exchange and artistic expression, said Fine.
Jennifer Evans, the station’s executive director, said she is excited about the opportunity to improve the station’s core infrastructure to provide people and non-profit organizations with an electronic green space in the ever-changing media ecosystem. “Thanks to the Hartford Foundation, WHC-TV is now in a better position to empower residents to tell their stories on television and beyond.”
Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is the community foundation for the 29-town Greater Hartford region, dedicated to improving the quality of life for area residents for the past 85 years.
