Donaghue Foundation and Hartford Foundation team up to fund medical research

Dr. William Zempsky’s research has helped Richard Smith and his parents, Cristine Doran and Christopher Smith, manage his sickle cell diseaseEthel Frances Donaghue knew the debilitating effect of disease and disability. When she died in 1989, she left $53 million to the Patrick and Catherine Weldon Donaghue Medical Research Foundation, to "promote medical knowledge which will be of practical benefit to the preservation, maintenance and improvement of human life."
   

$1 Million for Hartford's Children and Families

Children and seniors enjoy an afternoon of learning and sharing at a Brighter Futures Family Center program.A grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation - established in 1930 by the breakfast cereal pioneer - will help the Hartford Foundation's Brighter Futures Initiative strengthen a program that prepares Hartford children for school and supports them in the early grades....
   

Strengthening Mental Health

Strengthening Mental HealthAlmost one in three Americans will suffer from a clinically diagnosable anxiety disorder at some point in their lives. A new program at the Institute of Living at Hartford Hospital - the Depression Initiative - supported by a grant from the Gándara Family Fund at the Hartford Foundation, is expanding scientific knowledge about these conditions. The goal is to enable sufferers to achieve not just improvement, but full, functional recovery...
